NHL 2019 State of the Union

Preseason has begun, and we’re just weeks away from kicking off another exhilarating season of NHL hockey!

An extraordinary past couple of seasons for the league has brought the game to an all-time high in terms of fandom, exposure, and entertainment. Two long-suffering franchises won their first Stanley Cup – the Champion St. Louis Blues, and the Washington Capitals in 2018. The NHL’s newest expansion team, the Las Vegas Golden Knights, did what no expansion team has done in the history of professional sports, having made it the to Finals in their inaugural year. Another expansion team is on its way in Seattle. What does this all mean?

When it comes to parity, the NHL has for years been and continues to be King. The fact that an expansion team like Vegas can do what they did in their first year, is a testament to the plethora of talent that has evolved over the years, through the dedication and investment over decades and decades by the NHL and its legendary players. It is proof that all that investment is paying off in a massive way. The NHL is in more markets, making more money, and getting exposure with more demographics than at any point in its history.

Along with the preseason getting underway, some other great news came on Monday with the NHLPA deciding not to reenter into CBA negotiations with the NHL. This means at least three more years of peace, and of the league and game we love!
